SCRIPT FONTS

While script or handwriting fonts may appeal to you and may have even been decently popular in the mid 1990s, they are largely frowned upon today. This is mostly due to the fact that these fonts can be very difficult to read. If a user comes to your site and has a hard time reading the text, he or she is not likely to stay very long. Instead, it is recommended that you stick with simple serif or sans serif fonts, as these are by far the easiest to read and make your website look more professional. No matter what you do, never use Comic Sans!

CLASHING COLORS

Many websites of the late 1990s and early 2000s features lots of color. And while there is not anything inherently wrong with a lot of color, it is all a matter of how it is used. If you plan on using a lot of different colors on your website, then you should make sure that they do not clash or hurt the eyes. For example, bright pinks and neon yellows can literally be a pain to look at on their own. However, if you place those same colors on a black background and use them in moderation, they can work much better. In general, it is best to stick to no more than three main colors per page on your website.

BEVELING AND EMBOSSING

When Word Art was popular in the early 2000s, it was used on many websites and was even thought to look classy or professional. However, the fact remains that beveled and embossed fonts are not seen that way today. In fact, they are seen as just the opposite: tacky and unprofessional. If your website has any fonts with beveling or embossing, it is time to change them to a traditional serif or sans serif font instead.
